All these years later and Dr. K still pops up in mind. What a great man and pediatrician to my daughter. He is still missed and thought of.

What a wonderful pediatrician he was. My daughter loved him as her doctor. He was actually her doctor until age 20.   Every time my daughter had to go for an appointment as a sick visit or follow up appointment he got such a kick out of her because he never had to use a tongue suppressor since she  was able to open her jaws to max  because she hated tongue suppressors lol. His face would light up with a big smile because she brought out the type of happiness that I'm sure made his day alittle brighter. When my daughter had her daughter 5 years ago she looked up Dr K's practice in hopes to bring her daughter to him for care, and was heart broken to hear of the loss of such an amazing doctor. I'm sure he's missed by many, and  such a huge loss  fir those who never got to know what an amazing and caring pediatricam he was. My deepest sympathy and prayers to his family.

If it were not for his stethoscope I would have mistaken him for a stand up Comedian.  He was the funniest doctor we had ever known.  Very caring towards his patients and much like the other entries was shocked reading this obituary.  He was someone that just seemed like he would live forever!

I am very sad to find this online. Jim was our son's pediatrician in the early 1990s before we moved up north to Traverse City. He was a wonderful doctor and a great man. I am very sorry for the family. He was loved by all.

WOW, this is truly a shocker...I know I'm extremely late, but Dr. K was my daughter and son's pediatrician in the 90's. My daughter will turning 24 in December and my son is 20. He was such a wonderful doctor. I think my children would fake being sick just to go see "the nice doctor with the fun toys". I'm so sorry for your loss and I send many prayers and hugs to the entire family.

Very sorry to have recently heard about your families loss of George Kouskoulas. He was my daughter Alicias Pediatrician/family friend since she was newly born in 1989 for 19 years. When I took my daughter to his office when my daughter was sick, he always made her smile, laugh, and medically always treated her in a kind and caring way. He use to always say in a joking way when she was little and cried ....."wow she has a great set of strong lungs which shes going to definetly use someday for something special". He was right because she sings in a band and has a beautiful and wonderfully strong voice. When she would go in for a check up or when sick, he would ask her to open up her mouth wide to look at her tonsils and throat for inflamation, and would laugh and smile and say " I dont have to use the toungue depresser, thats because he could see just fine lol". My daughter and he got to know that routine quite well over the years lol, and she trusted him and felt safe knowing he cared very much about all his patients equally. He will be greatly missed for certain by my daughter most of all, and our family. Deepest sympathy goes out to your family. Our continued prayers and thoughts!! So sorry to hear about Dr.K. He was my daughter's Doctor, from 12/1990 until we moved from Michigan to Tennessee in 2007. She's now 24 and is very heart broken. She called me crying about the news. He was the only man on earth I considered her 2nd father. He will be truly missed. Heaven has a remarkable Angel. Now he can play soccer with the all GOD'S children.

The other day, my daughter was having problems with her newborn daughter (my Granddaughter) I said, well let's nip this in the bud. I googled her pediatrician and learned he passed away. I was shocked, and sad. Dr. K was an awesome Dr. He saved my youngest daughters life. Although he was busy (great doctors usually are) he never rushed my concerns and was thorough. I'm sorry the world lost this talented Dr. Who had great passion for children and life.

I knew Jim when we attended Marquette Elementry and Finney High. The early years at Marquette were especially hard for me as many of the other boys would treat me unkindly. Jim was always nice to me. He once brought me to his home on Lanoo, in Detroit and we ate Greek soup and butter cookies in the basment. He then showed me his bedroom upstairs and gave me a small polished rock collection in a small white box, which I still have today. This is definitely a bit late, but I still want to send my condolences to the Kouskoulas family. I was a patient of Dr. K, along with my brother and many cousins. I want to let you know how much of a difference he made in my life, and my brother's life also. It makes me cry to write this because he was an amazing doctor and no one can take his place. I wish he was here today, so that I could tell him that he inspired me to be a pediatrician just like him. I just graduated high school this last June and I'm on the pre- med track. I want to make the difference in others lives just like he made in mine and many others. I wish I could totally express how sorry I am for your loss. He was an amazing person and I know that he will never be forgotten!

My heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. K's family. I was stunned when I learned of his passing. My nephew, who has cerebral palsy, was a patient of Dr. K's. Alec could not talk, but Dr. K always took his time and made him feel at ease. Alec had several health issues due to being premature; we were always confident that he was receiving the best care/treatment available when he saw Dr. K. And Dr. K never shied away from treating Alec because of his multiple health problems, unlike other pediatricians in the area. Because we were so happy with Dr. K I referred a friend of mine to him when she had her baby. He came in on his day off to introduce himself the day after she had her son. What a dedicated and incredible person. My only regret is that I never had the opportunity to meet him and thank him for all he did for Alec.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Jim's passing. We were residents in the Pediatic Program at St. John Hospital 1986-1988 at which time I left for Henry Ford Emergency Medicine Program and Jim started out in his life as a Pediatrician. We used to go out and do the sort of things that young men do before they get married and have children, need I say more. Today, for some reason I felt I needed to get in touch with Jim, as it had been so long since we had touched bases. I remember his love for life, his family, and the Greek Community, his eyes that always had a sparkle and his big dimpled smile that drove the women crazy. He was a great "schmoozer" and probably would have done well in politics. It was hard for me to visualize him as a pediatrician, even though he loved kids, parents could put his pressure up when they were abusive or neglectful, and I was not sure how long he could put up with the ignorance that was pervasive in the Detroit area. I feel empty over this and can only express my belated empathy for his family, as I know this was devastating, especially from what I can only deduce was a sudden and unexpected demise. I am deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing or Dr. K. He was my pediatrician as I grew up, and became my childrens pediatrician as well. He was an absolutely wonderful Dr., that was born with a gift of caring and passion for what he did every day. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Kousloulas family. I just learned about Dr. Kouskoulas's passing and am sadden by our loss. He was a wonderful doctor. I first met him in 1988 at Dr. Scott's office. My oldest child had a rash and as a new mother I was overly concerned. Dr. Kouskoulas made me feel at ease and ensured me everything would be fine. I just learned of Dr. Kouskoulas' passing. I am deeply saddened at this great loss as he has been my children's pediatrician for over 9 years. Dr. K (as we all called him) was assertive and aggressive, yet gentle and caring when it came to treating my sick children. I have a disabled son and Dr. K always showed his concern for his well being, He always ensured that we received the best treatment from the office staff when I needed the extras , which was all the time since I have a disabled son who used to be sick all the time. Dr. K was one of the best doctors! My son and I are still in disabelief that Dr. K has passed. He was so concerned and caring with his patients. I was in disbelief and still am to find out this morning after being informed from one of the staff members that Dr. K had passed away. My two children and I thought he was a wonderful pediatrician, such a caring, kind, and people person kind of doctor. My heart goes out to Dr. K's family, and my thoughts and prayers as well. It is with great sadness that I write in memory of Dr. K. As a former patient for my entire adolescent life, I can say that I have never received care from any physician that can even compare to Dr. K. From my infancy to adulthood, Dr. K accomodated and cared for myself and my siblings and always provided a warm and comforting atmosphere to every child he treated. Dr. K was the type of doctor that any child or parent would pray to receive care from. His dedication to his work offered my sister an innovative treatment that otherwise would have left her on a laundry list of medications for life. after dr. scott retired, dr k became my sons doctor. he was the perfect doctor for my son. my son is now 20 years old, dr k was the only doctor my son had. we were blessed to have dr k as my sons doctor. dr k explained everything clearly when my son had issues. those issues even included areas outside of the medical profession. he made us all feel better, he will be greatly missed by all.

Dr. K. has been my kids doctor and friend for over 15 years. Every one of my children loved Dr. K so much and never feared going to the doctor. We loved him so much that I am at a loss of words! I pray for your family, he was a great man. May heaven find a special place for him, no one can ever replace him.

My heart and thoughts are with Dr. K's family and friends. And also to Dr. K's wonderful staff and fellow physicians in the practice. Dr. K (or Dr. kouskous as my son at age 2 called him) had been caring for our son since he was a year old. His humor and wisdom were always appreciated. I came across Mr. Kouskoulas name and obituary looking for someone else's name. To all the family by deepest condolences, very recently I have lost my Mom and I know how hard this can be. I am so sorry for your loss!!!

There really arent words that can discribe how my family feels about the passing of Dr K. He was a wonderful Dr and friend that my children (now adults) felt extremely comfortable with. May you run with the wind!

Beyond the condolences I want to express to his beloved family, I am saddened for the loss to my own family. Dr K. was a key part of "our team". He was the one who kept Kristina & Paul healthy. Kept us grounded and never made me feel inadequate. His sense of humor and warm greetings will be missed. Tonight we took our little one to eastside pediatrics urgent care, at the end of the visit the nurses asked who our childrens doctor was and we answered Dr. Kouskoulas. I knew something was wrong when they looked down to the floor and told us the sad news that he had passed away. I am so sadden to hear this. He was my pediatrician since I was 4 yrs old. I still remember when I was young and couldn't say his name correctly and he made a deal with me... Until I could say his name right he was going to call me Tony. To this day my parents will joke with me and randomly call me Tony. When my husband and I decided to start a family, there was no doubt in my mind who the doctor was going to be. We drove an hour to see him. There will never be another pediatrician like Dr. Kouskoulas. He always have a place in my families life. My deepest sympothy to his family.

We just came back from the office a few minutes ago. We suffered through two appointments before we forced the staff to tell us what happened to our doctor. What an inhumane way to find out that we lost our beloved doctor K.  I echo the earlier sentiments of another mourner, I do not even want to start looking for a new doctor for my baby. I thought we were set for life.  God Speed Dr. K.  You will be missed as a wonderful man and as a caring healer. You were there for me during the scariest few days of my life when my baby was in the hospital, and I will never ever forget you.  Deepest condolences from my family, to the Kouskoulas family.

To the family of Dr. K., it is really such a tragic loss to not only your family but to many more families that you all had to share his passion and love for caring for our children. After his long conversation she was a much better patient and their patient and doctor relationship grew stronger. Now my daughter Kishya, two daughters were patients of Dr. K and they will miss him tremendously.  To family, I am sure you are overwhelmed with many condolences, but it shows the love that your husband, father, son, brother and family member shared with so many people. I am so sad today. I went into the office expecting to see Dr K. He has cared for all three of my sons with so much care and love. I asked his cousin-in-law; Who will care for my kids? I just heard about Dr. K's passing from a friend who I referred to him when she brought her adopted baby girl home. My children went to him their entire childhood and he was the kindest and most patient doctor I could have asked for. Dr. K exuded a pure joy and celebration of childhood. He was a central figure in our lives for more than 21 years. Dr. K was the greatest doctor that ever lived. I always thought of Dr. K as my best friend. I've known him since I was 6 months old and I had not known any other doctor as special, kind, loving, caring, respectful, and thoughtful as Dr. George Kouskoulas. Not only did I lose the greatest doctor I've ever met or known, I lost my best friend. I am grateful to have ever known him. Dr. K is in a good place now. I'm going to miss Dr. K alot. He was a very intelligent person and a good doctor. He cared about every patient and you knew he always knew what he was talking about. Oh my god, tears flowed out of my eyes as I read the paper's obituaries. I have been going to Dr. K for 21 years, my oldest is 22 and my youngest son, age 8 just saw Dr. K on Nov. 6. He was the greatest of all Doctor's, more like family than just Dr. He made sure to always ask about soccer as we used to run into each other at the PTC in Macomb Twp. With my youngest playing for FC NOVA we used to see him often. I am at a lost not only for my pediatrician but for a man that made me feel comfotable even when my child was sick. My condolences to the family and all of his patients because I know they are at a loss as much as I.

Men, let alone physicians, of Jim's quality and caliber are too few and far between. Both of us too busy to realize our plans to get together to work on correcting some of the problems in medicine, yet assuming at some point we'd 'get together', I was shocked and dismayed to hear of his death.  I knew Jim to be someone who would fight for what was right, was as independent as they come, and fiercely loyal to his patients. As a colleague and a friend, trustworthy and loyal, his generosity was unparalleled. His charisma, attitudes and perspectives in life were admirable, and I felt he kept things grounded. No matter the situation, he simply made you feel better. He inslired confidence. We are all better off to have known him. Although I spoke with him infrequently, his absence leaves an unfillable void. Just knowing he was out there was comforting to many of us. He is, and will be very much missed. Dr. K was our children's, Renee and Dan Rosso, doctor since birth and continued to be into their 20s. He was the kindest, most patient, wonderful pediatrician anyone could ask for. My family and I were very sad to hear of Dr K's passing. He was my kids pediatrician up until the time we moved out of state. We still have not been able to find another kind, caring and compassionate pediatrician like Dr K. I remember a time after we moved that we were back in Michigan visiting family when my daughter's eardrum burst, I called Dr K and he was so caring that he saw her that day and start treatment right away so we could continue our visit without any worries. I lost my friend who was like a brother to me. Nobody enjoyed life more than he did. There was never a dull moment when he was around, I will miss all the fun we had golfing, bbq's at my house, the nicknames we called each other, and most of all, his friendship. OMG ! This is unbelievable Dr K has been more than just a pediatrician to my kids. My oldest Son is now 22 years old and we have been with Dr K for 21 Years. This man was more than just a pediatrician too us, He was like a brother to me and an uncle to my kids we all loved this man. He got us through some medical issues and always reassured us that things were going to be fine. Always loved seeing him during an office visit to hear the updates of his family and he always took the time to listen to my children with their exciting adventures of their life. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers, He will be deeply missed. And to his family thoughts and prayers being sent your way stay strong and make him proud, which when he spoke of you he was always proud and happy . How do I even begin to express how my family feels about Dr. K? He was my children's pediatrician since each of their births - 7.5 years, 5.5 years, & 4 weeks ago. He was a wonderful doctor - warm, attentive, intuitive, caring. He took a special interest in each child, and I will forever miss seeing the twinkle in his eye whenever he greeted each of my children. There are many good doctors, but there also are amazing doctors, and Dr. K was firmly among the latter. I don't know if I will ever be able to find another dr for my children with such a gift of healing them, and calming & reassuring us. I'm so grateful that we had the privilege of having Dr. K as our dr, and I regret that my baby will never remember him. My heart goes out to his family, especially to his girls, as his immense adoration for them was evident every time he spoke of them. My children, Kathleen (27) and Jimmy (24) were patient's of Dr. K for all of their lives through the start of their college years. Dr. K always had an abundance of energy flitting from one treatment room to the next and was always "right on" in his diagnoses of their childhood illnesses. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this sad time. May he rest in peace.

Our children were patients of Dr. K. and the shock of his passing is immeasurable. As a new mom, when I needed it most, he reassured me that everything would be ok. His calmness in explaining everything saved my sanity. We trusted Dr. K. with our lives, our children. The time he spent with us made us feel like we were his only patients. When Dr. K. prescribed something(the pink stuff or a nebulizer),Nicholas would always call it a "Dr. Kouskoulas Treat" even at 18 months, and would always comply since Dr. K. was so well respected (More than Santa Claus)!. Whenever Nicholas needed encouragement, we ALWAYS brought up Dr. K. (brushing teeth, eating vegetables, etc.)and it always worked. Know that Dr. K. was a very special man, with a tremendous ability with people and that it was obvious how much he loved his family, and how proud he was of his daughters! I was referred to Dr. K by my OB, Dr. Kami Kefalonitis, when I was about 7 months pregnant. I walked into Woods Pediatrics and sat in a room with my grandma, the second Dr. K walked in the room, I knew he was the BEST! I never even met another pediatrician because we just knew he was the ONE! He always called us 'Rizzo' and would always try to get my kids to say spaghetti when they were first starting to talk since they are a little bit Sicilian, but it was funny because they always say it wrong! Please know that our DEEPEST sympothy goes out to the Kouskoulas family, each and every one of you will be added to my extensive prayers, as I understand the grief from loosing a young uncle this past august from very similar complications.... Dr. K is the kindest, warm hearted, man..... We miss you$!!!!

Dear Kouskoulas Family, I was extremely sad to hear of Jimmy's passing. I'm so sorry I couldn't be there with you. This brought back so many memories we had for many, many years. Good times that Jimmy and I had as kids growing up in Detroit (Lannoo and Kensington), our families being close friends for as long as I can remember! Penny, Bill, Thimio and Nick, please accept my sincerest condolences. I know he will be extremely missed, but I'm happy to know he had a wonderful life and I know he touched so many lives, both personally and professionally. I was referred to Dr. Kouskoulas by my OB/GYN Dr. Kami Kefalonitis. After I met him for the first time, I knew he was a perfect match for our family. He was exactly what I was looking for in a pediatrician for my children. Dr. K had a way to put you at ease, even when you thought there may be something seriously wrong. He would not let you leave the exam room until you had an understanding of what you could expect in the days to come with an illness  including drawing diagrams on the paper covering the exam room table. We are still in shock learning of his passing, and it is going to be very difficult to trust our childrens care with someone new. Rest in peace Dr. K. You will be missed. Dear Jimmy, I hope you are watching a great match on the pitch or having a nice converstaion with a young child. We miss you deeply. Our memories of late nights at Harry's when it was still a DMZ, booking one of the kids in despite having no time, long discussions about life, family and soccer will always remain. You touched our lives in a large way. You were a person people wanted to be around, even our children. Of course, your sincere interest in them, whether in the office with all 3, at one of Sarah's games, or with Alex in the hospital, is something they and Sue and I will always remember. I've been a patient of Dr. Kouskoulas since I can remember- I even some him this summer, before I went to college. Dr. K was a great man, who got me through my childhood asthma problems, as well as a many more. I owe a lot of my good health to him.

I was Dr.K's patient and he knew my aunt for a long time.My mom would cut his hair a lot.I didn't usually see him much because he made sure I was healthy. I was sick the day he got sick and I wanted to go see him so he could see if I was really sick.(I didn't know this was going on.)He was a good Dr. and I hope he watches over all of us from heaven!

"Dr. K" was what we always called him, but family member was how we thought of him. He was much more then our pediatrician he was our family caregiver. For almost 18yrs and 2 children he gave us comfort when we were worried and encouragement as new parents. Dr K was not only our pediatrician, but for our niece and nephew, and for our friends. His spirit will truly be missed. He touched and helped more people then I'm sure that he ever imagined. We will always miss and cherish him. Our hearts and prayers go out to all that loved him. My heartfelt sympathy to all of Jim's family! I worked with Jim at SJH in the Pediatric playroom since he started his residency & on into private practice. Jim was always a blast to be around! George Kouskoulas was a nice,and wonderful Pediatrician for my children. He also was a generous and good man to work for. I spent 9 years in his office along with all the other employees whom seemed to enjoy working for him also. He also was a pediatrician for my granddaughter, Olivia Noe. My daughter, Elena is so sad to see him leave his practice but that's how life works among us. I will miss him dearly. I just ran into George a couple weeks ago at the Kroger in St Clair Shores, he smiled as if nothing was wrong and was happy to see myself and my husband. I'm so very sorry for your lost. Dr. K has been my sons doctor for 15 years. It's a Friday night and I don't know why I clicked on the obit page. Dr. K had such PASSION for the childrens. Dr. K is beloved by three generations of my family--my parents, who entrusted us to him when he was just starting out; my brothers and I, fortunate to have him as our pediatrician; and my daughters Phoebe and Violet, who shyly adored him as theirs. His sudden passing is devastating for everyone lucky enough to love and be loved by him, especially his daughters, of whom he spoke so proudly, so often. My wife and I were shocked and saddened to hear the news that Dr Kouskoulas had passed away. For almost 18 years he was our daughter and son's only pediatrician. I was Mr. Mom for the first 4 years of my kids life and I got to know Dr Kouskoulas quite well. He was a wonderful doctor. His big smile and caring attitude will be missed beyond words. He had a genuine gift for dealing with sick kids and reassuring anxious parents. I thought of him as a great friend. We would send him family photo Christmas cards and he would post them on the office bulletin board for months and months! We extend our sincere and deepest sympathy to the Kouskoulas family. Our daughter Brittany played together with Dr. Jim's daughter Mariana on the Gators soccer team. During that time we traveled to many tournaments together. As noted, Dr. Jim was an avid soccer player who enjoyed watching his daughter play at the highest level. One thing the Dr. would do during our soccer games is lend his professional experience to make sure all the girls were safe and healthy. Whether we played in 90 degrees or 40 degree tempatures, he would always make sure the girls were in good health. And if the girls injured themselves he was like a team doctor administering first aid without hesitaiton. It was always a comfort having him around knowing how much he wanted the girls to win. It was this passion and competitiveness that he always brought to the games. He will be missed. God bless you Dr. Jim.

I am sorry for you loss. I have known Dr. K as a customer for the past four years, although I would call him a friend. I looked up to him as a mentor and will deeply miss our friendship and his intellectual curiosity and passion for medicine-

Where do I start with this wonderful person. Not only was he a great friend, he was a great Dr. to my two boys when they were his patients. He once told me "when they grow to be taller than me its time to move on". It was tough to do that because he treated them with respect and lots of love. My family was very sadded of Dr.K death but will remember all the great times we had with him. To his two precious girls...I lst my dad awhile ago too. Its tough because he was my dad. I was a patient of Dr K and now my daughter is. I heard of Dr. K's passing today. This came to me as such a shock. My daughter Alexis 2 years old is a patient of Dr. K's. Every time we went into his office she was a little nervous until he pinched her little cheek and said there's our little cheeks. He is the most wonderful Dr. I could ask for to care for my daughter. Dear Family My children and grandchildren will miss Dr.K very much. My two kids went to him my daughter was 13 and my son was 9. Now my daughter has two boys one 3 1/2 and a little one 3 1/2 weeks old. They two went to Dr.K. We are all in shock. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. To Dr. K's family--we were so saddened to hear of Dr. K's passing. Perhaps it will be of some comfort for you to hear what a wonderful man and doctor your husband and father was. Dr. K. began caring for our first child upon her birth, stopping by our hospital room to let us know that our daughter was perfect. When our newborn wasn't eating, he calmed two new parents and quickly got our baby girl eating. Dr. K. always made time to see our children when they were ill. He had a kind, quiet manner and gentle touch. Our children never minded having to go to see Dr. K. When our son's teachers thought he might have ADD, Dr. K. was thorough in confirming the diagnosis and worked with us and his teachers to find the proper treatment plan. All 4 of us will miss Dr. K. The three of you and his extended family are in our thoughts and prayers.

May God, family and friends comfort you in this desperate time. I'm a nurse who worked L.D.R.P. at Cottage Hospital. I remember Dr. K's "gentle touch" with each newborn exam. He will be missed.......

He often shared stories of his family and his face lit up when he spoke of "his girls".
