Gerald Soave

Gerald Soave of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan passed away March 22, 2022 at the age of 93. He was born on October 9, 1928; the son of the late Eleanora and Donato Soave. He was the cherished husband of Vera for 68 years. Beloved father of Janet (Steve) Deters, Carol Mawby-Soave, and Beth Soave. Loving grandfather of Tim (Kaitlin) Deters, Patrick Deters and Emma (Mitch) Bryant, and great grandfather of Clara James Deters.

Jerry was the son of Italian immigrants and had a tremendous work ethic which he passed on to his three daughters. He was a successful builder and land developer, founding his own company, Canterbury Building Company. He built many homes, apartments, condos and office buildings on the eastside.

His passions were faith, family, winemaking, Red Wing hockey and boating. He relished boating with family and friends on Lake St. Clair and took trips as far as Georgian Bay on his boat the Bella Soave. When younger, he turned his boating passion into service as an active member of the US Auxiliary Coast Guard assisting boaters on Lake St. Clair. Jerry took much pleasure in family vacations with his children and grandchildren.

Jerry will be remembered as a constant source of love and support to all around him, most especially his “girls”. His graciousness and generosity are his legacy. Even though successful in business, he never forgot his humble beginnings, consequently he valued everyone he came across. The family wished to thank his caregivers, Mary and Cassie for the loving care they extended to him. In addition, they would also like to thank Care Team Hospice for their compassion and support.

Visitation from 5 pm-8 pm Sunday, March 27 at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, Grosse Pointe Woods. Rosary/Scripture service at 7 pm. In-state at 10:30 am Monday, March 28 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 Jefferson Avenue, St. Clair Shores. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
