I met Germaine the day I placed membership at Grotto, 6-14-6. She was working on the grounds and I asked if she needed any help holding a garbage bag for trimmings. That was only the beginning! Before I knew it she had me trimming a bush, watering flowers, and even watering the grass! She was pretty nice and tough, both. A good Catholic combination! I wrote a poem tonight for her as I will be clocking into work while the funeral Mass begins tomorrow: "For Germaine, a good lady who loved nature. May Heaven be as she had dreamed.0;) I can't resist the beauty of the clouded sunset across the lake. So I hypnotically traverse the road, the gate, the grass to the swim dock. Taking off my sneakers, rolling up my jeans. Metal steps. Warm lake water gently caressing my bare feet, cool breeze over me as Charlotte gingerly weaves her night's dream-catcher over my shoulder. Sweet dreams, Germaine."

It is a tragic loss that our beloved Germaine will no longer be with us at Assumption Grotto. I marveled at her grace, and at her ability to keep working. She performed splendidly in the role of Mother Teresa just last summer for Fr. Perrone's 30th Anniversary. She will be deeply missed. I was so grateful to God that our priests were at the right place, at the right time, to administer all that the Catholic Church has to offer at such a time. She will remain in my prayers. Eternal rest, grant unto her, O Lord....

Germaine was an inspiration to us and all those who knew her at Assumption Grotto. She was always involved in fulfilling her life's purpose by helping others--especially tending to the needs of the priests. When we found out she passed into Eternal Life, we recalled how she had inspired us with the energy with which she performed her tasks. We thanked God she had priests to assist her at the hour of her death--a great sign and a great comfort for all those who pray the Rosary and ask our Blessed Mother to "pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen." She will be missed by all who knew her. Yet we know she can do more for us now than what she could do on earth. She can intercede for us in ways that she could not in her mortal life. If we have a happy or even a sad moment when we think of her, we need to remember to pray for her and pray to her asking for intercession, especially for assistance for her beloved Assumption Grotto Catholic Church and for all those whose lives have been touched by the church she loved so much and worked so hard to preserve.

We were very grieved and shocked to hear of Germaine's death while we were at the funeral home for Diane K's mother, but we couldn't stop marvelling at how blessed she was to be tended by priests (who were also her dear friends) at the moment of her death. We will pray for the repose of her soul and for the comfort of your family during our family rosary each night. God bless her for her many years of service to the Church. Rest in peace, Germaine.
