Gloria Ruppe passed away peacefully on December 6, 2009 in Grosse Pointe Woods. She was born on February 10, 1922 in Grand Rapids, Michigan; daughter of Marvin and Blanche (nee Fischer) Jones. When Gloria was young her family moved to Detroit. She graduated from Detroit Southeastern High School in 1940. She continued her studies at Michigan State College (now MSU), studying dietetics. One of her proudest accomplishments was her 62 year marriage to her college sweetheart, Peter Ruppe Sr., beginning on December 19, 1942. They met at the college and, after several years, were married in a military style ceremony just prior to Peter's departure to serve in World War II. Mrs. Ruppe was a hard worker. In her youth she worked as a soda fountain attendant Sanders Ice Cream. After years as a mother and homemaker, Gloria went to work as the bookkeeper for Ruppe Industries and Peter P. Ruppe, Inc. to remain involved in the family businesses. Gloria had many interests, including baking, swimming, sewing, gardening, and reading. Her homemade jams, pickles and doughnuts were received well by all. A whiz in the kitchen, she could whip up a healthy four course dinner in thirty minutes. Her dietetic background inspired her to continually perfect her recipes to the latest nutritional standards as they changed. She kept her home neat and dinner was always ready at 6:00 pm. She swam 30 laps daily, whether in Michigan or Florida in back yard pools. Her gardening specialty was roses. She grew other flowers and vegetables. She and Peter would pick strawberries every year for her famous jam. Her primary Florida home had a wide selection of fruit trees in her backyard, including grapefruit, lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines and even a banana tree. Faith was important to Gloria. She was a devout member of Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church since the early 50's. She was a founder of a local mother's club which met monthly at each other's homes. She was involved in a local investment club, as well as the Inventor's Association of Metropolitan Detroit. Gloria leaves behind her daughters Dianne and Deborah, and son Peter Jr. (Lynn). She adored her grandchildren David Myers II (Amy), Peter, Steven, and Julie; and great grandchildren David III and Emmett. She is survived by her brother Gordon Jones. Mrs. Ruppe was predeceased by her husband in 2005, a son Paul and brother Jarvis Jones. Visitation will be on Friday, December 18th, from 3:00pm until 8:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Gloria will lie instate at Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church (19950 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods) on Saturday at 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral at 10:30 am. Reverend James Rizer will officiate. She will be interred next to her husband at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in a private ceremony.
