Gordon James Steil

Gordon J. Steil, died peacefully at his residence on February 14, 2010. Gordon was born on November 9, 1949 in Detroit, the son of George H. and Rita (VanAssche) Steil. He was a lifelong resident of Grosse Pointe. Gordon was a 1967 graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended Wayne State University. His career as an engineer and executive in the automotive industry included positions at Draftline, Dynaplast, LDM Technologies, Plastek Automotive and Johnson Controls. He was an avid boater, gardener, and enjoyed woodworking. His family and friends were important to him. In 1973 Gordon married Edie Wells at St. Gertrude Church in St. Clair Shores. They were blessed with 36 years of marriage. In addition to Edie, Gordon is survived by his two sons, Gordon Jr of Berkeley, CA and Justin of New York City. Also surviving are his two brothers, George and Michael. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Pamela Steil-Daudlin. Visitation is scheduled from 3:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will be prayed at 7:00 pm Wednesday. Gordon will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake, St. Clair Shores from 9:30 am Thursday until time of mass at 10:00 am. Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin will officiate. A private interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
