The last time I saw Greg was about 50 years ago. We were all young and carefree just starting out in life. Unfortunately, we did not stay in touch, but Greg was the nicest, sweetest person anyone could know and even after all these years, I always remembered him.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Patty, his family and friends.

Greg was a great person and always had a smile on his face at Detroit ASHRAE meetings.
He will be missed.

As Joe's sister and Kathy's sister in law, what an honor it was to be chosen as godmother to their 1st born child, Christine with Greg as her godfather!
Through the years I always knew Greg to be a charming, kind and all around great guy. 

When we 1st heard of Greg's battle with cancer we prayed for a miracle for Greg to be free of such a journey.   We know we were among many who prayed for Greg and family.  The outcome of our prayers were not what we had hoped but we all know Greg's memory will remain eternal!  May our continued prayers  surround all the loving Merlo family with graces, and strength in the days to come.

I've known Greg for over 60 years and can honestly say he was one of the finest people I have ever met. As one of, and along with his St Davids "Harem" we made many wonderful memories. And while Greg leaves a void in this world that can never be filled, we are grateful for those memories and grateful to Greg for helping us make them.

Our family has a daughter the same age as his who introduced us to Greg, Patty and their son Garrick. Over the years we were fortunate to enjoy a wonderful relationship with Greg and his tremendous family. We belonged to the same church community, bowled with him and his bride Patty. Enjoyed great nights out, sporting events with our girls and a friendship that we will always cherish. Greg was a special individual. Friend to all, loving Father, Husband and Grandfather. We have lost a dear friend and exceptional human being with Greg's passing. He was a man of integrity and a faithful friend and will be sorely missed. Over many years we have shared vacations, holidays, and family gatherings with Greg & Patti and watched their children grow and mature along with our own. Greg was a reliable businessman who provided first-class products, services and advice to me and all of his customers in the steam generation and heating industry. I first met Greg at an AmRep Council meeting. He was dedicated to Merlo Steam, honest and hardworking, personable with an easy smile for all. Later, Carrie and I became good friends with Patti and Greg through the MRS group at our annual gatherings. Over the years we enjoyed work, travel and golf together. How grateful we are to have those memories. The loss of Greg leaves a void that can never truly be filled. But his memory and spirit will live on for those of us fortunate enough to know him. Greg showed us what it meant to live fully, face challenges with grace, and embrace every moment. Rest in peace, dear friend.  You will always have a place in our hearts.

Please know that both tears and prayers go out to your family during this most difficult time.  As you know Greg was a big part in so many people's lives.  In both personal and professional he made a large positive imprint.   The character of Greg was shown in many ways but one way he showed me so much of his greatness is how he faced his battle these past few years with such courage and without bitterness.  I have learned much from Greg and will miss him greatly.

I met Greg over 20 years ago and I would have never imagined that God would have gifted me such a valuable friendship for the next twenty years. I liked him immediately as he possessed great character; honest, patient and humble. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations as he would calm the waters regarding challenges I faced and offer valuable insight for resolution. Truly a blessing to have known Greg and to have been his golf partner for years! Many wins, but our best win was at Katke Cousins to have won low Gross in the Member guest of 2013.  However our favorite win was the first win at Red Run in 2001. We drank all afternoon on the outside patio to celebrate!

One of the best golf tournaments of my life was when Greg got two of his friends and we played in the Italian Open at Red Run Golf Club and won it all! 
We added up the scores, and at about 19 under, I asked Greg if he thought it was good enough to win.  He replied "I think it's good enough to get us shot"!
Rest in peace my friend.  You will never be forgotten.

I had the pleasure of being hired by Tony and working with Greg from 1986 to 1998. Greg was one of the good ones for sure.  He was a leader, gentleman, teacher, host, innovator, and friend.  Always positive and always found the good in people.  I remember the wild game dinners at his club and the fun we had even while working. 
Greg will be missed by many. May you rest in peace friend.

To the family, you have my sincerest condolences and prayers.  Greg was a very good friend and business associate.  I worked at Armstrong for 38 years and grew up in that company as Charles Daugherty was my father and VP of sales.  I have fond memories of Tony Merlo bringing us Spumoni ice cream every year - "spumoni from Tony" we would say.  Greg was a total extension of his father and one of the best.  It was always satisfying to work with Greg and the entire Merlo organization.  They were one of the best and I will always remember Greg as well as Tony.  Take care and may God give peace of mind to the whole family during this time of loss.
