Harold was known for his strong commitment to the couple's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Together, Harold and Jean traveled frequently, touring locales such as Scotland, Florida and Michigan's upper peninsula. Harold was an avid golfer, once hitting a hole-in-one. He and Jean played cards together frequently, becoming a nearly unbeatable duo at Euchre. Harold was proud to be a Detroiter. He and Jean would take Lakeshore Drive to Belle Isle Park where they enjoyed picnics, ice-skating and feeding deer. His favorite restaurant was Roma Caf, his preferred takeout was Buddy's Pizza and chocolate was his dessert standard.
