

Hattie R. Glowniak, age 93, died April 15, 2009 at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center. Hattie was born in Poland, the daughter of Stanley and Bernice Piatkiewicz. At age six, after World War I, her family immigrated to America and eventually they settled in Detroit. She graduated from Southeastern High School and later met and married Henry Glowniak. Hattie's new husband and brothers were in the Armed Forces and Hattie wasn't going to sit at home alone, so she enlisted too. She was a proud veteran of the US Army. After serving her country, she returned to Detroit and began raising her family. Hattie loved Belle Isle and all of the activities it offered. She was an active volunteer in Girl Scouts, for the Archdiocese of Detroit, Meals on Wheels and St. Anne Nursing Home in Detroit. She was a devout Catholic woman, loved her church and country and was a patriotic citizen. In her later years, she was active at St. Joan of Arc parish in St. Clair Shores and their Senior Card Club. Hattie was the beloved wife of the late Henry for 53 years (d.1999); the dear mother of Dennis (the late Kathy), Dr. Jerry, Irene Spooner (Mark) and James (Jill). Grandmother of Scott, Amy Russell, Jennifer Spooner, Grace and Claire. Great-grandmother of Jessica, Connor and Deirdre. Sister of Henry Peters and Isabelle Putz. Visitation will be from 3-9 pm Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods with a 7 pm rosary. Her body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake, St. Clair Shores from 11:30 am Saturday until mass at 12 noon. Interment Assumption Grotto Cemetery. Memorials to St. Albertus Catholic Church, c/o Polish American Site Association, Inc., 4231 St. Aubin, Detroit, MI 48207 would be appreciated.
