MOSES, HERBERT (LEE) January 15, 2014 Age 85 Beloved husband of Esther (DiMusto) Moses for over 57 years. Dear father of Deborah (Michael) Hart, Susan (Clifford) Miller, and James (Diana) Moses. Loving grandfather of Jason (Sze), Jessica, Jacqueline (Benjamin), Jillian, Kaitlyn, Jeremy, Jami, and Jennifer. Great-grandfather of Zachary. Funeral service Saturday 12 noon at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Visitation Friday 3-9 pm. HERBERT LEROY MOSES was born on July 11, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan. His parents were William and Kathleen Heckel Moses. Herbert had 3 sisters, Betty, Marge, and Patricia. His mother died in 1957, his father died in 1971, and his sister, Patricia Moses Trombley died in 1987. Herbert was also known by many friends as Lee Moses, and Herb Moses. When Herb was very young, his family moved to Roseville, Michigan. There, his Dad bought an acre or more of land, and they had a couple of cows, a pig, and some chickens. All the children helped with the animals. Because Herb was the only boy, he had to leave school early in order to get a job and help out with expenses at home. Herb's best friend was George Proctor. One day Herb & George, now teenagers, went to a church on 10 Mile Rd. & Harper. There they heard the gospel message given by Rev. Jolly, and both accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. When Herb was 20, he joined the U. S. Army, and was sent to Japan to serve from Dec. 1948, until Aug. 1949. That was when his parents requested the Army to let him come home to help them out. Because Herb was no longer in the "active" Army, he served in the reserves from Aug. 1949 to April 1954 to earn an Honorable Discharge. Herbert's name means "Glory of the Army." He was very proud of his service in the Army & the award he earned for being third best in shooting a rifle among his comrades. In 1955, George told Herb that he should come & visit the church that George & his wife were attending. George wanted Herb to meet "a nice young lady" there. At first, Herb hesitated to go, but a couple of weeks later; he did attend a service at Harper Woods Tabernacle. There he met Esther DiMusto, and she became his wife on April 28, 1956. Herb & Esther started their family in 1957 with the birth of their 1st daughter, Deborah Lee, Susan Carmela was born in 1960, and James Brian was born in 1962. As the years went by, there were 8 grandchildren for Herb & Esther to love and cherish. Their first great-grandchild, Zachary Miller, was born May 3, 2013. The best times in the Moses family were when everyone was attending the same church, and the grandchildren came to greet Herb & Esther with hugs and kisses! Esther loved to sing and the songs she sang were gospel songs. Herb loved to hear his wife sing, and always told her how beautifully she sang! Herb worked at Ford Motor Co. in Wixom, MI. He did many different jobs while there, starting with welding, and ending with being a paint inspector of Lincolns and Thunderbirds. Herbert Moses died on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the age of 85. Herb will be missed by his family & friends! But, we have that Blessed Hope, and we will all meet again in Heaven! `
