Jaclyn Marie Scott

Jaclyn Scott was born on October 9, 1984 at St. Johns Hospital in Detroit. Jaclyn was Brian and Barbara Scott's first child. She was followed by her sister Anna on January 7, 1987, and brother Kyle on February 5, 1989. She attended Pinewood Elementary, Warren Woods Middle School, and graduated from Warren Woods High School in 2002. After high school, Jaclyn attended Michigan State University and Oakland University, graduating with her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. She wanted nothing more than to have her own classroom. With no jobs available in Michigan, she promptly moved to North Carolina to pursue her career in education. In North Carolina, Jaclyn continued her education by successfully completing her Masters of Arts in Educational Technology. While her teaching skills continued to grow in North Carolina, Jaclyns love for family brought her back to Michigan in 2017 when a teaching position became available in the Dearborn School District. She drove 90 miles every day to teach 1st graders at Whitmore Bolles Elementary School. In 2018 she accepted the challenge to teach gifted and talented children in the 2nd and 3rd grades at Woodland Elementary School in the Avondale School District. Jaclyns passion to teach began in the third grade, when she simply stated that she was going to be a teacher. She never wavered from that decision. This passion led her to be selected "2016 Teacher of the Year" in Wake County North Carolina, an honor she downplayed every time it was mentioned. She never wanted the attention on her. When not at work Jaclyn loved all types of crafts and DIY projects. She loved parties and planning them. She was instrumental in the planning of her sisters wedding this past summer. Like everything else in her life, she was always ready to help. Jaclyn was an over-the-top lover of animals. Whenever she would see a stray dog in the neighborhood, she would stop her car and try to find its home. She brought treats with her to St. Maarten for the dogs on the beach. When her own dog (Frankenstein) was diagnosed with glaucoma last year and was told he had to have both eyes removed or be put down, Jaclyn did not think twice and went forward with the expensive surgery. Frankenstein has adapted and today lives a very happy and healthy life thanks to Jaclyns love of animals. Her veterinarian told her that she is a true animal advocate. Jaclyn Marie Scotts life came to a tragic end in a traffic accident while driving home from school on November 13, 2018 at the young age of 34. She will always be remembered for her sarcasm, quick wit, desire for fun, but above all, her kindness and readiness to help others. Jaclyn was the dearest daughter of Brian and Barbara, the loving sister of Anna Theeck (Dan) and Kyle Scott (Kelli). She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation for Jaclyn will take place on Friday 2-9 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. She will lie In state Saturday 9:30 am until time of Mass 10:00 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church 6021 Whittier, Detroit 48224.
