Dr. Jacob Edward Briski, MD, of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, entered into eternal rest on September 22, 2019 at the age of 92. Jacob was born January 30, 1927 in Detroit, MI, to Jacob and Phyllis (Stimac) Briski. Jacob served in the United States Army during the Second World War. He played the trombone in the Army Band, often performing at functions held to entertain officers. Following his military service, Jacob received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne University in 1951. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne University College of Medicine in 1955. He then went on to specialize in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology, and enjoyed a fulfilling career practicing medicine at St. John Hospital (now Ascension St. John Hospital) in Detroit, MI. He married Rosemary (ne Balacon) in the summer of 1951, and together they raised four children, Laurence (born in 1952), Jacqueline (1955), Richard (1957), and John (1964). They enjoyed sixty-six years of marriage. Jacob pursued a wide variety of interests with enthusiasm, passion, and curiosity. He particularly enjoyed a life-long love of music. From working as an usher at Detroits Masonic Temple, where he was inspired by performances from world renowned musicians, to his own achievements as an accomplished pianist, he pursued musical excellence and perfection with vigor. He delighted in photography, first embracing the physical darkroom, and later digital technology, all in the pursuit of adorning his house and life with beautiful imagery. His favorite subjects were members of his family, vibrant flowers, and a vast catalogue of birds and animals. In his later years he would often tour the neighborhood on his scooter with his dog, Brandy in his lap and his camera around his neck. He enjoyed both yachting and sailing, and undertook many trips with his family throughout the Great Lakes. In their retirement he and his wife spent several years touring the country in their RV, taking in beautiful vistas and visiting their children and grandchildren. Also in his retirement, Jacob took up carpentry, crafting and finishing beautiful pieces of furniture and art, some of which his wife, Rosemary, decorated with floral or pastoral subjects. He was the beloved father of Laurence (Linda), Jacqueline (Glenn) Errington, John (Lisa) and the late Richard (Terri). Jacob was grandfather of Laurence, Robert; John, Jennifer; John Jr., Gabriel; Jacob, Jordan and Jillian. He is survived by his brother, Robert. He is also survived by his seventeen year old Pomeranian, Brandy. Jacob was preceded in death by Rosemary, his loving wife of sixty-six years; his son, Richard; his parents, Jacob and Phyllis Briski; brother, Darryl; and parents-in-law, John and Mary Balacon. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation Sunday, September 29, 2-9 PM with scripture service at 5 PM at the A. H.
