Jim was a lifelong resident of Grosse Pointe and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1969. It was during his high school years that Jim played guitar in a popular, local band called “The Sounds of Nite” that played at many of the area teen clubs and parties. It was during this time he met his trusted friend, John Briles.
Jim went on to attend Eastern Michigan University, earning a degree in marketing. Anyone who met Jim was attracted to his magnetic personality and contagious laugh which served him well in the sales industry. He was most proud, however, of having the opportunity to work alongside of his son, Danny, for ten years at his insurance agency.
Jim loved a project. Whether it was attending a children’s workshop at Home Depot with his little granddaughter, remodeling a kitchen, building and refinishing furniture, painting or landscaping, he thrived on it. Many friends and family members eagerly enlisted his help and advice.
He also loved sports cars. Beginning with the Corvette he purchased in college, he owned many others including a Porsche and Miata, which were always kept in pristine condition.
Jim and Rita met in 2008 and married in 2014. Their lives and dreams for the future were brought to a halt with his devastating diagnosis in 2020. Through it all Rita remained by his side giving him the best possible care in their home.
Jim was a devoted family man and nothing made him happier than to entertain his children, grandchildren and extended family in his home. He will be most remembered for the love he had for his family and friends and his generous nature.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. with a funeral service at 6:00 PM.
