

James Edward Brooks of Oak Park, Michigan, age 81, born August 20, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan, died Tuesday June 18, 2019 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was the son of the late Anne H. Rowley and Ronald C. Rowley of Detroit, Michigan. Jim is survived by his sister Joanne L. Egan (Alan) of Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, nieces and nephew Sheryl Carpenter of Saint Clair Shores, Michigan, Joyce Whitman of Centennial, Colorado, and Aaron Egan of Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, and sons, Paul Brooks, John Brooks, and Kenneth Brooks, and many friends. Jim attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Pershing High School in June of 1956. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the US Navy and served our country from 1956 to 1962. He worked for Hughes and Hatcher as a salesman and store manager in Detroit, Pontiac, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. In his later years, Jim worked for the city of Oak Park, Michigan in various roles. Jims thoughtfulness and kindness will be remembered by all. Jim enjoyed Saturday market days at the Royal Oak Farmers Market drinking coffee and discussing politics with friends. Jim always made his family laugh and loved to tease his nieces, nephews and sons with practical jokes and funny stories. Jim will be missed by all who loved and cared for him. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236. Jim will lie in state on Sunday, June 23, from 11:30 am until time of funeral service at 12:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
