

A lifelong Grosse Pointer, Jim passed away just 2 miles from his place of birth, Grosse Pointe Farms, on Aug. 7, 1944. Jim is survived by, and was the husband of, Barbara Evans; father to Geoff (Tara) Evans; grandfather to Nate, Madi & Ben Evans of Ada, MI; brother to Judy Siegel, PhD. of New Hartford, CT and “cat dad” to Butterscotch and Pepper. He was preceded in death by his father Ira Edgar Evans and mother Lucile Evans of Marco Island, FL and brother Ed Evans of Outing, MN.
Jim graduated from Grosse Pointe (South) High School in 1962 and received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He continued to a 35-year career at DTE, retiring in 2001. He was a distinguished IEEE Committee member, Senior Life Member of Distributech and enjoyed membership in the Grosse Pointe Power Squadron for many years. After retirement he continued as a consultant and instructor for Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Boating was Jim’s passion and he delighted in caring for his Chris Craft Sea Skiffs and the vessels of friends at the Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park. His reputation for solving marine challenges was well known and the local boating community held a special place in his heart. Jim also enjoyed family outings at the Pier Park and traveling with his wife, Barbara to research family history in Maine, New Hampshire and New York.

Per Jim’s request no funeral or remembrance service is planned, his ashes will privately be committed to Lake St. Clair this summer. Contributions in his memory can be made to Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society, www.gpaas.org with the designation for orphaned and abused cats.
