

Jane C. Grunow died peacefully on May 27, 2011 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit following a massive stroke. Jane was born in Detroit, the daughter of Thomas and Cecelia Steiner. In 1948 she married Arnold Grunow and resided on Detroit's eastside, eventually moving to Grosse Pointe Woods where she made her home for over 50 years. After raising her family, Mrs. Grunow began working as a cashier at the Notre Dame Pharmacy on Kercheval in the City of Grosse Pointe. Jane was an avid swimmer and swam at Bally's in St. Clair Shores in the winter months and at Lakefront Park in Grosse Pointe Woods from Memorial Day to Labor Day in the summer months. Mrs. Grunow's family remembers her great sense of humor, with one-line comebacks her speciality. She was a very supportive and encouraging mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She was fond of animals and her "grand-dogs." Mrs. Grunow is survived by her daughters, Cecelia Thomas (Nick), Patricia VanDenbussche (Ron), Christine VanAssche, and Sharon Crooks (Ed). She also leaves eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Arnold in 1977 and her daughter Mary (Peggy) Mulligan in 1993. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Sunday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
