Jane Elizabeth Stevens of Grosse Pointe Woods, age 70, passed away on September 15, 2026. Born August 23, 1956, to Robert and Lucy Stevens, Jane was a beloved presence in the lives of many, remembered for her sense of humor, her precise memory, thoughtfulness and generosity.
Jane attended Grosse Pointe North High School and graduated from Wayne State University. She followed in her father’s footsteps by attending the University of Detroit School of Law, earning her Juris Doctor in 1981. She was a proud and exacting attorney for 45 years. Jane worked for the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for more than 35 years and served as head of the Federal Division for much of that time. She helped countless families through her work.
Jane enjoyed traveling to many places around the world, including Israel, Ireland, Egypt, Germany and Switzerland. She enjoyed cruises to Alaska and along the Mississippi River. An avid photographer, Jane loved capturing the places she visited and bringing souvenirs home for herself and others.
Jane’s Lutheran faith was fundamental to her life. She had been a member of First English Lutheran Church since 1963, when her family first moved to Grosse Pointe. Jane was a longstanding member of the choir, where her clear alto voice stood out. She played handbells and, when she was younger, also played the organ. She was involved in a variety of activities at First English for many years and cherished the lifelong friendships she formed there.
Jane is survived by her loving family: sister Jill (Phillip) Bush, brother Robert, niece Samantha Stevens and nephew Blake Stevens. She was preceded in death by her beloved German Shepherds, Baron and Star.
The family would especially like to thank Jane’s angel caregivers, Sherryl Bates and Marie Fleming, for their care and compassion during Jane's recent health struggles.
Memorial donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the First English Lutheran Church Organ Restoration Fund or General Fund, or to the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society.
