Jean Worzniak, lifetime Harper Woods and Grosse Pointe resident, passed away in her sleep on December 2 - four days shy of 101. She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 66 years, Frank Worzniak. She lived a truly wonderful life. Jean was active in her community. She was a girl scout leader, volunteered for the Red Cross, delivered Meals on Wheels and played a leadership role in the Polish Aid Society and League for Crippled Children. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed travel, but her greatest joy was her family and she enjoyed quality time with them throughout her life. Jean believed that the way to a persons heart was through their stomach. Her kitchen was always filled with wonderful smells and her refrigerator always open. It was impossible to visit without having something to eat. Jean was deeply religious and prayed constantly. Her preferred mode of prayer was the Rosary, which she said daily. It grew to be such an integral part of her life that she could often be heard saying it while she was sleeping. She encouraged her caregivers to join her and it became part of the nightly routine before going to bed.
When she began requiring some household assistance, Jean was blessed to have the most wonderful, loving caregivers at her side. making home made soups and Polish delicacies, massaging her back, warming her nightgowns before putting them on and treating her just as they would their own mother.
Jean is survived by her loving daughter Debbie (Steve Grob), son Dennis (Nancy Alwen), 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A celebratory Mass will be held at St Paul on the Lake on December 5 at 10am.
Donations may be made in her name to the Hospice of Michigan or St Paul on the Lake Catholic Church.
