
Servite Brother Deacon Joel Lechner, O.S.M. passed away on June 16, 2013 at de Greeff Hospice in St. Louis, Missouri after his battle with cancer. Brother Joel was born in Detroit on November 5, 1957, the son of Dr. Monroe and Helen (nee Schneider). He entered the Servite Order in 1983. He worked at Seven Holy Founders parish located in Affton, Missouri 1985-1988. He professed solumn vows in 1989. Brother Joel served in several parishes and schools in both Chicago, Illinois and Orange, California. He was ordained a deacon on April 30, 2005. Brother Joel served as principal of Seven Holy Founders School from 2008 -2012. Brother Joel is survived by his parents, Dr. Monroe and Helen Lechner; his twin brother, Jon; brothers Gary (Maureen Murphy) and Paul (Rhonda Rehahn); sisters Carole (Michael McDonald) and Jane. Ten nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-9 pm with a rosary 7 pm at the A.H.Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Brother Joel will lie in state Wednesday from 11:30 am until time of Mass 12 noon at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations for the OSM South Africa Servite Missions, 3121 W. Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60612 are appreciated.
