

John Edward Elek, age 71 of Sterling Heights, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on November 20, 2018. He was born in Detroit on August 27, 1947; the son of Edward and Mary (nee Maskelis) Elek. John was a former teacher of math and chemistry, but he spent the bulk of his career working as a Business Analyst for Ford Motor Company until his retirement. John was extremely active in his adopted church, Our Lady of Redemption Melkite Catholic Church. He was devoted to his family, country and God. Beloved husband of Susan for 48 years. Loving father of James Elek and Mary Jo (Steve) Gale. Proud grandfather of Ricky, Danni, Joshua and Jessica. Dear brother-in-law of Dick (Amy), Bill (Madeline) and Jim (Karen) Habib. Caring uncle of David (Meghan) and Nicholas Habib. Johns family will receive friends on Saturday, November 24th from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Sunday, November 25th from 1:30 PM until 9:00 PM with Trisagion Prayers 7:00 PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13-1/2) Mile Road in Warren. Instate Monday, November 26th at 10:00 AM until time of Mass 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Redemption Melkite Catholic Church, 29293 Lorraine Avenue in Warren. A private committal service for John will take place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery in Clinton Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Our Lady of Redemption would be appreciated.
