John Stephen Logan, age 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 26 2019 at home surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Detroit, he lived most of his adult life in Grosse Pointe. John was born September 27, 1927 to Stephen and Angeline Logothetis, one of 3 boys (Peter, Leon). Always a strong student, he graduated from East Commerce High in Detroit at just 16 years old.
John worked at his fathers restaurant, Steves Lunch on Woodward until he was drafted into the Navy in 1946. He attended his beloved University of Michigan on the G.I. Bill and earned both a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration by 1950. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, and very active in club sports. Among his best college memories was playing on the scrimmage team against the venerable U of M football team of that era.
After graduation, John served in the Air Force in the Korean War as a First Lieutenant. He returned to Detroit to work for CBS, selling advertising. It was during this time he met Carol Peterson, and they were married on May 14, 1960.
John was an extremely hard worker, while working at CBS, he opened a small hamburger stand on 8 Mile and Gratiot which he owned for over twenty years. He also enjoyed reading, tennis and biking. He was always busy taking on household projects, and was always there to help neighbors and friends when needed.
After leaving CBS, he continued in the restaurant business and began to invest his resources in stocks and utilities. John followed the stock market closely, typically riding his bike to the library each day to read the Wall Street Journal.
While John worked hard, nothing compared to his dedication to his family, purchasing a home for his parents, and providing resources for both his parents and brother throughout their lives. He was always there to support his wife and daughters with advice, help and guidance. Grandpa Logan was actively involved in his grandchildrens lives, never missing a birthday party, school performance or graduation.
John is survived by his wife Carol, his daughters Lisa (Mark) and Stephanie (Bill), and beloved grandchildren Lauren, Haley, Nicholas, Michelle and Danny. Visitation will be Saturday, November 30, 10:00 - 11:30 am at First English Ev Lutheran, 800 Vernier, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, with a memorial service afterwards. Memorial donations may be made to First English Lutheran, or to the John Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit MI at volunteer.va.gov
