John F. McDermott

John F. McDermott Sr., age 89, died Saturday, November 24, 2012. He was born on July 26, 1923 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to John J. and Nina (nee Richardson) McDermott. A World War II Veteran, he served from 1943-1945 as a parachute rigger/repairman. Later he worked as a budget analyst for the Department of Defense (TACOM). He married Betty Jane Rotherick on July 14, 1945 at St. Philip & St. Stephen Church in Detroit. They were blessed with 8 wonderful children. John was a layperson for St. Mark Episcopal Church in Detroit for several years. He was a brilliant man with a quick witted and sassy personality. He loved to read science fiction and stayed up to date with current political events. John was a Boy Scout Troop Leader and in his spare time enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. Loving and devoted husband to the late Betty Jane. Beloved father to Kathleen Middler (Glenn), Barbara Colley (Ronnie), Joanne White (Craig), Carol Harris (Bill), Kimberly Girard (John), Nina Sadowski (Mark), Amy Bachor, and John Jr. (Sherilyn). Cherished grandfather of 18 and great-grandfather of 21. Funeral 12 Noon on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd. at Masonic, Warren. Visitation Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Henry Ford Hospice.
