John Douglas Sloan

John D. Sloan was born on August 5, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas the son of Herbert and Jeanette Sloan. He married Dawn Olesky and together they raised three children, their son John Jacob Sloan and daughters Nicole and Amy Beth Sloan. John retired in 2008 as a heavy equipment operator for General Motors after 32 years of loyal service. John enjoyed several activities that included reading, horseshoes, solving crossword puzzles, trivia board games, history, fishing Up North, and playing Keno. His dogs were always at his side. More than anything else John loved spending time with his family, to him the most important thing in the world. John was the beloved husband of Dawn, dear father of Nicole Sloan (Jason Martyniuk), John Jacob Sloan (Shannon), and Amy Beth Sloan. Loving grandfather of Brooklyn and Alyssa. Dear brother of Teresa Anderson (Michael), and Janlyn Messina (Rocco). John was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Jeanette Sloan as well as his brother Gregory Sloan. Son-in-law of Lois Olesky and the late Ralph. Also survived by many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Funeral service Tuesday 1:00 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, Visitation Monday from 2 until 9 pm.
