John J. Van Assche was born March 29, 1919 in Detroit and entered into rest January 9, 2015 in Grosse Pointe Woods at the age of 95. John was the loving husband of the late Marlene the Queen and dearest father of Gary (Deanna), Suzy, Diane(Michael) Bowman, Michael (Suzanne), and Marty (Carole). He was grandfather of 16, great-grandfather of 22, and great-great-grandfather of five. John enjoyed golfing, sailing, eating out and playing gin at the Roma Cafe. Visitation Tuesday 3:30 pm 9:00 pm with scripture service at 7:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Funeral at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms. Instate Wednesday 9:30 am until time of Mass 10:00 am.
