All the Zapytowski children live in Michigan. John was born on August 13, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to Ignacy and Angela Zapytowski. He graduated from University of Detroit in 1950 with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. John married Marion Grabowski, on November 5 1955. John worked as a salesman for Chemical Processing of Detroit for 47 years. In addition to their 5 children, John and Marion have 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. John and Marion count their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as their greatest blessing. The following words of John's 19 year old granddaughter, Angeline Fisher are a beautiful testament to John's legacy. "Heaven just gained the most beautiful angel on November 3rd - John Zapytowski. John lived his 89 meaningful years as a God-fearing, hardworking man. He wore many important hats as a faithful husband, caring father of 5 children, and loving grandfather who watched over and cared for each of his 16 grandchildren. His strong belief in God, peaceful nature, and paternal tenderness inspire me to strive for his caliber of excellence. Grandpa, I know you're not truly gone. You're up there cracking jokes with St. Peter and vigilantly watching over your loved ones from heaven. May you rest in eternal blissful peace." In addition to John's professional and paternal roles, he accomplished many other things of note. John served as an electrician in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. John loved to watch things grow and he was a gifted gardener. Camping, hiking, swimming and square dancing all contributed to and demonstrated John's health, vitality and passion for life. He was a member of many choirs including University of Detroit Choir, Palestrina Choir, Great Lakes Naval Choir, Lutnia Polish Choir and St. Joan of Arc Men's Choir. John's generosity, wit and dedication were shared in a variety of other settings ranging from the Third Order of St. Francis and the Polish Falcons to the Boy Scouts and a multitude of church and other civic volunteer positions.
