Joe was born in Detroit, and served in World War II as a cryptographer in the Army Air Corps throughout the Pacific. He worked as a printer and retired from the Detroit Free Press. Joe was a world traveler with visits to 36 countries, an avid reader, a quick solver of crossword puzzles, and a kind friend who accepted everyone as they were.
