

Joseph Chapman Cunningham, of Grosse Pointe Woods, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016. He was born June 13, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia to William and Mary Cunningham. He was a graduate of Boys High School Atlanta, Emory University, and Southern Methodist University. He was a Captain in the U.S. Navy, served during the Korean War and in the U.S. Naval Reserves Supply Corps. He was a member of Grosse Pointe Congregational Church, a member of Grosse Pointe Partners Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Veterans Club, a member of the Grosse Pointe Senior Men's Club, a Carelink Senior Services volunteer at St. John's Hospital, an AARP volunteer tax preparer for Services for Older Citizens, and a member of The Villagers Dance Club. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patricia Ann Mullaney, his brother, Dr. Robert (Verdery) Cunningham, his children, Clarissa (Pepper) Brown, Blair (Deanna) Cunningham, Lisa (Mark) Ritchie, and Laure (Lee Schafer) Mullaney, and ten grandchildren: Parrish, Logan, and Pep Brown; Taylor (Todd) Linder, McKenzie, and Carter Cunningham; Will and Olivia Ritchie; and Andy and Samantha Schafer. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 18, 2016 at Grosse Pointe Congregational Church.
