Retired CMSGT Joseph A. Gutierrez passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026. He served 30 years in the Air Force, and did 2 tours of Vietnam. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as an adjudicator. He retired from the VA, and worked as a National Officer for the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He eventually retired at the age of 75.
He was an avid golfer. He played football at Holland High School, and even in the Air Force. He enjoyed making Tex-Mex tapes for his family, and loved spending time with them even more.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Petra; 3 daughters, Debra (Daniel) McGuire, Denise (Dan) Ivester, and Deanne Gutierrez; brothers, Ramon Gutierrez and Gilbert Gutierrez; 4 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren, and 18 Nieces and Nephews.
A visitation will be held Monday, September 28, 2026 from 5-8 PM at A H Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods 48236 with a Rosary at 7 PM.
The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 10 AM. at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Tuesday at 2:30 PM
