

Joseph A. Tolari, age 88, died peacefully at the William Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe on June 5, 2015. Joe was born in Detroit on August 7, 1926, the son of Louis and Ada Tolari. Joe was a graduate of Southeastern High School in Detroit. He was also a graduate of the American Institute of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Tolari was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army 11th Airborne Unit. After serving his country, Joe began his banking career at the National Bank of Detroit in 1949. He retired 43 years later as a First Vice President and head of the Grosse Pointe Regional Banking Center. Joe was a former Board Member of the Bon Secours Hospital and was a former chairman of their Finance Committee. He was a past president of the Lochmoor Club and a member of the Grosse Pointe Rotary. Mr. Tolari is survived by his son, Jeffrey L. (and Jeff's loving companion, Sharon Wong). his sister, Fern Walch; and his loving companion, Marlyss Nadeau. Joe was predeceased in 2004 by his wife of 49 years, Laura. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a vast number of friends he loved as family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. His body will be instate at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms from 11:30 a.m. Friday until mass begins at 12 noon.
