

Konstantine “Dennis" Karas passed away on Friday May 20 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in February 24, 1940 in Detroit, the son of Jack and Anastasia Karas. Dennis married Anna, the love of his life, in 1965 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Together they enjoyed fifty years of marital bliss. Dennis was a member of the Denby High School class of 1958 and 1962 class of University of Michigan where he earned a bachelor of arts degree. He retired from Celotex Corporation a building materials firm, working in sales for forty years. Dennis and Anna belonged to the Laurel and Hardy Club, called “Coo-Coos" and the Lumbermen Association called the “Hoo-Hoos". They would attend the conventions of both clubs. Anna said that her loving Dennis was always smiling. Dennis enjoyed cooking, often cooking for Anna and when they would host a dinner party. He would call out, “Dinner's ready!" when things were being served. He tended to his flower and tomato gardens. He liked antique cars, especially Studebakers, the cars that first captured his fancy. Dennis had interests in history and architecture. He looked forward to the day when he and Anna would travel to Cuba to observe the buildings in Havana. Dennis also had a hobby at which he became skilled and very proficient sandblasting and creating art with stained glass. He sandblasted the Pegasus image at the Pegasus Restaurant located in the Fisher Building, as well as creating commissioned customized stained glass creations. Dennis is survived by Ann, his beloved wife of fifty years. His loving brother John (Paula) and niece Christina also survive him. He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Anastasia Karas. Visitation for Mr. Karas will take place on Tuesday from 4 until 9 pm with Trisagion 7 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Dennis will lie in state 10 am Wednesday until time of funeral service 10:30 am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Road, St. Clair Shores. The interment will be at Cadillac Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the church.
