He received his B.A. and B.S. from Taylor University where he was editor of the literary magazine which received First Place in Indiana. He received a M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, M.Ed. from Trenton State College, D.Min. from McCormick Theological Seminary and took numerous philosophy classes from Michigan State University. He worked as a Presbyterian minister and adjunct professor of philosophy, world religions, logic and ethics. He was proud to have taught school in Arizona for eight years, worked with Navajo people, started a church in Snowflake, Arizona and merged churches in Michigan as a Presbyterian minister. As a minister, he performed many weddings and funerals. He had a radio program for ten years in Michigan on WLQV called “Challenges of Life” through Day Spring Ministries.
Larry enjoyed reading, traveling to 48 of 50 states, photography, camping, visiting light houses, canoeing, writing a hymn, novels and poetry, attending Historical Society of Michigan conferences, walking in the neighborhood, visiting houses of worship of other faiths, and spending time with the grandchildren. He was glad to ride the last interurban car in Royal Oak.
Larry enjoyed sharing a fundamental principle of his life: “Never give up, keep on going, take a day at a time and learn how to change a problem into a challenge and make life an adventure of living.” He also believed it is important to “being with, looking at, listening to and caring for others.” He shared these two philosophies of living with many people he met. He was a man who followed Jesus and shared him with others.
Larry wrote the motto of my life is “the supreme joy in life is superb friendship with God.”
