

Born Dec. 26, 1970, Leigh was the beloved wife of Steve Backon and devoted mother to their 17-year-old daughter, Charleigh, who was the center of her world. Nothing brought Leigh more joy than her family. Her love for Steve and Charleigh was constant, deep and unmistakable.
Leigh had a rare and beautiful gift: She loved to make people laugh. She was endlessly focused on others, always lifting spirits and bringing lightness to every conversation. She lived the truth behind Maya Angelou's words: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." People always felt better after talking with her.
Leigh loved the warmth of the sun, the peace of the water and especially being around her dogs, who brought her constant comfort and happiness. These were some of the places and moments where she felt most at ease. But more than anything, Leigh loved her family and the people in her life. Her kindness, humor and the joy she brought to others will never be forgotten by those she knew and loved.
Leigh was predeceased by her father, Dwight Leonard; and her beloved grandmother, Florence, who lived to the remarkable age of 101 and held a special place in Leigh's heart.
She is survived by her loving husband, Steve Backon; cherished daughter, Charleigh; mother, Sharon Miller; brother, Rick Leonard (Linda); niece, Emma; and nephew, Alec. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
A gathering will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 8, until a 1 p.m. memorial service at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack, Grosse Pointe Woods.
Leigh's spirit lives on in the laughter she created, the love she gave and the countless lives she touched.
