

Lillian Sally Schmidt, affectionately known as "Diamond Lil" passed away on May 21, 2017 at the age of 83 in Naples, FL. She was born in Detroit to Michael and Mary Elias. Lillian was a longtime resident of Detroit, currently resided in Chesterfield, but enjoyed spending her winters at the condominium in Naples. Beloved mother of Cindy Sandercott, Deborah Witting, Carolyn (Randall) Eissa, Suzanne Schmidt, Gregory (Sophia) Schmidt and James (Virginia) Schmidt. Cherished grandmother to Roseanne Murray, David (Danielle) Witting, Joseph Sandercott, Michael (Raymara) Schmidt, Nina Schmidt, Elaina Schmidt, Jayme Schmidt, Jordan Schmidt, Lilia Schmidt, and Anna Schmidt; great-grandmother to Jack and Reese Witting, James Sandercott, Danny Hurford, and Isabella Schmidt. Dear sister to Louis (Germaine) Elias, Dolores (Bob) Jennotte, Fred (Carol) Elias, and the late Donna Hamama. Loving friend to Zena Vitale and the late Angeline Lopiccolo. Lillian was a valiant woman and entrepreneur. Her business ventures began when she purchased "Diamond Lil's" in Detroit. She took ownership of several businesses on the block, from a Dairy Queen to a pizzeria . After her first taste in business ownership Lillian owned and operated Party Place first. She then opened a third party store named Harper Place also in Detroit. She tried her talents with Mexican cuisine while she owned and operated Muchacho's restaurant. After owning the restaurant she was the proprietor of Baseline True Value Hardware store. All of Lillian's business resided in Detroit except for the hardware store which was located in Warren. She was a strong supporter to her community and always took great care of her customers. Lillian also lived and operated a farm with her family in Emmett, Michigan. She had livestock, horses, cows, chickens, and roosters. She enjoyed gardening and loved playing cards with her lady friend's, Zena and Angeline . Not only did she enjoy playing cards she was a blackjack dealer at Greektown Casino. After retiring from all of her business ventures Lillian loved playing in the stock market. Her passion was her children and her family. She will be missed by many. Lillian's family will receive friends for a memorial visitation and celebration of Lillian's life on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 2-9 PM at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. A rosary prayer service will take place at 7:00 PM on Thursday. Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017. Lillian's family will receive guests from 9:30 AM until time of memorial Mass at 10:00. This will be at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake Street, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. The family will gather immediately following Mass at Resurrection Cemetery for prayers. She will be held in the Pieta Mausoleum of the Angels A memorial contribution in Lillian's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
