

LINDA L. ROBINSON Linda Robinson, died peacefully on May 20, 2015, in her residence in St. Clair Shores, MI. She was born in Newport News, Virginia, to James N. and Vennie H. Robinson. Her father was an executive at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company; her mother was a Registered Nurse prior to her marriage. Linda spent her youth in Newport News before leaving for Frederick, Maryland, where she graduated from Hood College with a BA in Political Science. She spent her working career with Phillip Morris, maintaining her residence in Richmond, Virginia. She was hired as a secretary but soon worked her way up through the organization to become the first woman executive in the Richmond office. Ms. Robinson earned her Master of Business Administration at the University of Richmond, the first woman to be sponsored by her company for graduate education. She retired from Phillip Morris in 1998 as Purchasing Manager and remained in the Richmond area until 2011 whereupon she moved to Michigan to be closer to her sister and her family. Linda was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Newport News, Virginia. She was also an associate member of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. As a young child, Linda studied and became accomplished in piano as well as the organ. In her youth, she frequently played the organ in her hometown church. Linda enjoyed classical music, literature, theatre, gardening, crafts, sewing cooking, entertaining, water aerobics, traveling (especially with her sister and family, including business trips abroad) volunteer work for her local library and public television. She was sensitive to the needs of others and supported generously organizations helping children and those with special needs. Most important to Linda was her family. She was devoted to her parents, sister, brother-in-law, nephew, niece and niece's family. She was selfless in all her endeavors and was loved beyond measure by her family and many others whose paths she crossed. Survivors are her sister Ann (Gordon) Robinson Willett of Grosse Pointe Farms, her nephew, Dr. James Gordon Willett of Denver, Colorado, her niece Lindsay Willett (Dan) Needle, grandniece, Mallory Piper Needle of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Linda's mother and father preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015, 4 PM at the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church where she was an associate member. Internment will take place at a later date in Newport News, Virginia.
