Linda vonRosen passed away peacefully on August 25, 2013 at Sunrise On Vernier in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. She was born in Detroit on November 20, 1942. She graduated from Birmingham Seaholm High School in 1961, where she met her husband, John, on their Senior Trip to New York City. They both then attended the University of Michigan and married upon John's graduation in August 1965. Linda later received her BA in English from Calvin College in Grand Rapids. They had two children: Suzanne (Paul) Zieske and John Charles (Carrie) vonRosen, and five grandchildren: Jodi vonRosen, Robert MacDermaid III, Benjamin Smeenge, Eric vonRosen, and Connor vonRosen. She is the oldest of seven children of the late Charles and Louise Mitchell. She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Charles (Susan) Mitchell, Judy Hartman, John (Gerri) Mitchell, Thomas (Judy) Mitchell, Jacqueline Mitchell, and Heather (Jon) Boegler. Linda was very committed to her family and church. She served on the Board of the Greater Detroit Co-operative Nursery Council and was a charter member of the Metro East President's Council of Lutheran Social Services of Michigan. She was a 35 year member of St. James Lutheran Church of Grosse Pointe where she was a Sunday School and Catechism teacher. She served in numerous positions on the St. James Board of Directors including President of the Congregation. As an active volunteer, and later, employee of Lutheran Social Services of Michigan, she was responsible for planning the 60th Anniversary Celebration at the Novi Hilton. The celebration had over 700 attendees and included contracting with noted Lutheran hymn writer John Ylvisaker for a special hymn for the celebration, and hiring both radio personality Mark Andrews as the Master of Ceremonies, and Detroit Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell as the keynote speaker. Later in life Linda developed Alzheimer's disease and when it had progressed to the point that John could no longer care for her on his own, she was lovingly cared for by the devoted staff at Sunrise On Vernier in Grosse Pointe Woods. Linda will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and a devoted friend. She will be sorely missed by all. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church of Grosse Pointe, 170 McMillan Road, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan 48236.
