

Lisa J. Fikany, 51 of Detroit died peacefully on February 1, 2012 at Detroit Receiving Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on November 24, 1960 in Gary, Indiana; the daughter of Thomas and Angela Kennedy. Lisa grew up in Grosse Pointe and graduated from Our Lady Star of the Sea High School in 1979. She graduated from Wayne State University with both a Bachelor and Masters degree. She was a clinical psychologist specializing in children. Lisa was devoted to her occupation helping children. She was employed at the Children's Home of Detroit located in Grosse Pointe Woods and later for the Ennis Center for Children in Detroit. Lisa's family describe her as driven and focused toward helping children. She was always compassionate, was a strong advocate for the underdog and put other people's needs before her own. After the Katrina hurricane, Lisa worked with the American Red Cross in their humanitarian efforts. Lisa is survived by her children, Joseph Fikany, Jr., Angela Fikany, Kathryn Fikany; her two sisters, Kara Thompson (Brad) and Kristin Kennedy-Shatraw (David) and her mother Angela Kennedy. She was predeceased by her father Thomas Kennedy in 2003. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will begin at 7:00 o'clock. Her body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake in St. Clair Shores from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until mass begins at 10:00 o'clock. Rev. Fr. Lee Acervo will officiate. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Ennis Center for Children, 129 E. Third Street; Flint, MI 48502.
