Lola was a longtime and beloved resident of St. Clair Shores. She dedicated 30 years of her career to the Detroit Board of Education, serving as a secretary, where she made an impact on countless students, families, and colleagues.
She was a devoted member of Assumption Greek Church, and gave generously of her time and faith for many years. She taught Sunday School to generations of children, volunteered tirelessly at the annual Greek Festival, and offered her time in the church office, always ready to lend a hand wherever she was needed.
Lola’s memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her years of service and devotion.
Lola was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Parris; parents, Spiro and Theodora Gianakis; sister, Emily (Gerald) Collins, and brother, James (Carlene) Karavite. She lived to 92, the same age as her siblings Emily and James reached before her, a remarkable longevity shared by fewer than 5% of Americans over 65.
Lola was a proud and loving mother to her daughters Katherine (David) Hensley and Dorothea Lester. She was the cherished YiaYia of Rachel (Kevin) Teller, Sarah Hensley, Evan Lester and Ginamarie Lester, who brought her immense joy and pride. Beyond her immediate family, Lola was a beloved Godmother to Nicholas Backus and the late Thomas Voutsas, relationships she treasured deeply. She also is survived by many nephews and nieces.
