To the family and friends of Mrs. Thorn, I am so sorry for the loss you must feel. I spent the greater part of my childhood as a Campfire girl and a friend and class mate of Pat's. To Patty Evans. My Mom called me yesterday when she saw your Mom's obituary. I looked up her service information at the funeral home's web site and was surprised to know what a full, long life she lived. I wanted to send you this condolence because your mom meant so much to me growing up during our times in Campfire and St. Juliana. All the memories of our January visits to Camp Wathana will be forever etched in my memories--Sledding down that hill in front of Watona (the big lodge), and ice skating on the lake, and hiking at night to find the Hermit's house. The camp is still there! Also, I remember all the fun we would have at your "backyard bazaars". I remember one year, the Campfire troup did a Charlie Brown skit with cardboard cutouts we put on paint sticks and acted out the scene from behind a table in your garage. I can still picture your basement where we would have Campfire meetings. Your mother made such a significant, positive impact on so many people's lives she touched, and I am certainly one of them.

Pat, After reading others memories of your mom I know where your warmth and generous spirit comes from. Lots of love to you and your family during this difficult time.

Going to "Mrs. Thorn's Fair" is one of my very fondest childhood memories. My siblings looked forward to the event every year. The annual event was held during the summer in the yard of the home on Philip--games in the yard and on the back porch and in the garage. Prizes; bake sale; rummage sale. In fact, I remember her referring to the "white elephant" sale, and as a child, I kept hoping to see the "white elephant"! My mother, Mary, finally explained to me the meaning of the term! Thank you, Mrs. Thorn, for the very, very fond memory. We lived right across the street--the Bahnke kids. Loraine was a major influence on my life. I was an assistant Campfire Girls group leader with her at St. Juliana's school. We all camped at Mt. Holley campgrounds every January. We started with 14 girls in the second grade and still had 7 of them in H.S. Linda, her daughter was in that group. Loraine was a great role model and friend.

Linda - Please accept my condolences. Your mother was a special person, whose outreach to her extended family will be sorely missed. She was special to my wife Virginia and I. Thanks for letting me know of her passing. I have notified those family members I could reach. May God reward her for the good she brought to the world.

I lived next door to "Mrs. Thorn" for the first 22 years of my life. In my minds eye I can still see her in her back yard on Philip Ave. adding water to the circular above ground swimming pool and carrying colorful plastic rectangular trays with lunches to the picnic table where the neighborhood kids were all invited to come and eat their lunch. I remember cider and powder sugar donuts we would have at her dining room table after a night of "trick or treating." I remember a garage filled with a trunk of fabulous "dress up" clothes. I remember Christmas times when we were invited over to their small living room filled from floor to ceiling with gifts of the latest dolls and games. She had a knack for knowing everything that was going on in the neighborhood and helping others. I could feel her sense of generosity and abundance. Her ability to create community must have followed her everywhere. May she see the reflection of her lifes kindness and beauty in all the tears that fall for her.

Loraine was a rare spirit and a rare individual, and I had the great privilege, though I wasn't her son, to always call her mom.

I am so very sorry for your loss, we have also lost a wonderful Aunt. My condolences to all the family. We are on our way West and will not be home till April 1st, so sorry we will miss the funeral but Aunt Loraine will be in our thoughts and prayers, along with all of you.
