Louis J. Dutts, age 88, died peacefully on September 13, 2016 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. Louis was born in Detroit on April 26, 1928, the son of Thomas and Mary Dutts. He grew up on the eastside and graduated St. Rose High School in 1946. He enlisted in the US Army and served his country for 18 months, attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his Army enlistment he learned the electrical trade and after returning home began working as an electrician. He joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #58 where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Louie went on a blind date with Beatrice Marchand, a date set up by her cousin. They were married on June 28, 1952 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Harper Woods. They moved into a new home in St. Clair Shores where they began their family. For the last 24 years, Louie and Bea wintered in Florida including Marco Island and the St. Petersburg area where they still have many friends. Lou enjoyed golf and played until last fall. He also bowled and played euchre. He liked to watch the Tigers and has been a long-time disappointed arm chair coach for the Detroit Lions. Louie had an infectious laugh and shared many euphemisms with his grandkids. Mr. Dutts was a member of the Senior Men's Club of Grosse Pointe and a long time member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he was at one time a member of the choir. He also volunteered time as an electrician for the church's annual Spring Festival. Louis is survived by his wife, Beatrice; their children, Beth Stimac (John) and Mary Hogan (James); grandchildren, John, David (Kristi), Jaclyn, Patrick and Kevin; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Annabelle. He was predeceased by a son Louis. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Michael Bugarin will officiate. Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
