Lucille Edith Daniels passed away on March 29, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born on September 27, 1925 in Detroit, daughter of Matei and Elizabeth (nee Przybla) Maximiuk. Lucille loved to garden, cook, and decorate her home. Her sons will miss her wonderful meals. She didn't just like flowers, she was passionate about their beauty. Giving her a bouquet of flowers was like giving her a million dollars, and she would just sit and marvel at nature's beauty before her. She enjoyed traveling throughout this country and abroad. When she was a girl, her father worked for the railroad, so she was able to take trains all over the United States and much of Canada. She spent many summers in Montreal with her cherished cousin Doris, and throughout her entire life she would say to practically everyone she met, "Have you ever been to Montreal? Going to Montreal is just like going to Europe. I love Montreal!" Education was important to Lucille. She liked to recall her school days, proudly displaying the certificate and medal she received for winning the American Legion School Award for courage, character, service, companionship, and scholarship. She also won a major spelling bee and always cherished the dictionary she was awarded. She attended the High School of Commerce in Detroit, where she trained to be a secretary. After graduating, she worked for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company as the secretary to the secretary and treasurer, at the time, the second-highest position held by any woman. She was a woman of strong faith and was dedicated to her church. She attended Saint Joan of Arc Parish for 48 years until failing health prevented her from going. She will be remembered for her positive attitude and warm smile. She responded to complaints by saying, "That's life, get over it!" She would then say, "My parents lost everything during the Depression. My father lost his job, they lost their life savings when the banks closed, they lost their house, and they lost their 7-year-old daughter to diphtheria. I don't know how we managed to get over all of these setbacks, but we did." She was a product of the Great Depression and a member of the Greatest Generation, the generation of hard work, sacrifice, and frugality. Lucille Daniels was a sweet woman who was loved by everyone who met her. She will be truly missed. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods.
