Dad its now 2017 and i sit here missing you like I just lost you...still. I miss the late night conversations..looking up at the stars in such peace and solitude and hoping David is sitting there beside you keeping that fire going cause we all knew you couldnt keep that fire going even with kerosene. I am 53 now... never got to brag how I was in my 50's and you in your 60's but thats ok. I still see you in everything...sadies unselfish love..trevors impatience and savannahs perfectionism. .I never got to thank you for helping me give them a taste of how I grew up with trips and laughter. .I love you dad...please keep an eye out for all of us!

Del was like a second dad to me growing up and he will be missed terribly. My love and condolences to all the family.

I never met him but, I am friends with his grandson Trevor and he spoke about what a great man his grandpa was and that he was proud to call him his grandpa.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad and husband. He was absolutely one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. I am a better person for having known him and truly believe he was a very influential person in my growing up. Words cannot express my sorrow. He will be missed.

Grandpa, I miss you so much and its hard knowing that im never going to see you again. You all should be very proud to have a grandfather and father like Marion. Not knowing who he was, one day he walked into the Coney in Fraser like he was on a Mission from God, explaining he was a walking miracle with what he had gone through. Full of life this man would not stop talking. In fact everyone was listening to him. He was very intreging, and very thankful to God, knowing with all the prayers he had gotten a second chance. My deepest condolences to the Gillenwater family. Del was my supervisor at Chrysler for a number of years, and became one of my good friends because of that. He was an awesome boss, and an even better friend. We worked on different projects together to better the quality in our department. He took great pride in his job and it showed. Often, at the end of the day, a number of us co-workers would gather in his office just to chat. Del would always share stories about his family, and we all felt like we actually knew you all. How he loved his wife, kids, and grandkids! You were his pride and joy! When my husband and I were married Del and his lovely wife were able to make it to our reception. I still remember vividly seeing him push his way through the crowd to dance with me the first dance of my married life. That was a special dance to me and always will be. When I had my daughter three years later I felt compelled to write to him and tell him that I now know and understand how wonderful it feels to be a parent. My daughter is now five, and I still use the advice every so often he would give to me about family and how it comes first. He was very proud of his family--his everything. Del, The day we watch you leave us ,all I could think about was this picture of you in your football outfit and me only 2,with your arms around me,making me feel so safe,I stood there that day and watch your heart beat slowly go,I thought how could this be happening,I was crying so bad inside,I remember that day I talk to you after your transplant you were so scared I told you just pray and give your soul to the lord and you cried,you know Del you ment the world to me,I just cant believe your gone. I was so proud of you kids they are so much like you,your grand kids are so special they talk so proud of you.I was really worried about Cheryl she was so kind. Our family was very fortunate and blessed beyond words to have had him as part of our lives. I miss him so very much. He was the love of my life and he will continue to be until we meet again.

Del, Even though you have left this world I know you are still with us after being at Dels home on Sunday at dinner time only to hear Amazing Grace being played by the bag pipes for Memorial Weekend. No message could have been more clear. In my many years of healthcare never have I seen a family of children so distraught over their fathers illness yet so strong for their mothers well being. Since my father passed you became a big inspiration in my life as well as my children. We already miss you so much. I can only hope that my children can role model after your own children. You told me how important it was to take care of the people in your life that you love and they will always be there for you in your time of need. Never take your family or your real friends for granted because life is too short and precious and we never know what is forth coming. I will always be a phone call away if Cheryl or "The Family" ever needs me. At this time I would like to thank Anna,Del Jr.,Cathy,Danny and especially David for sharing your father with me and my children. It was a great honor to know him and he will be deeply missed. Even at his hour of death I will have to stake the claim for him "He Truly Was The Best Looking Gillenwater."
