So sorry for your loss. I remember "Markie" from California Ave. He was always smiling that same smile I see in his photo :) It sounds like he grew up to be a wonderful man...loved by all. The first time I met Mark I remember saying that you were going to marry him.  I knew immediately that he was going to be apart of our lives.  I knew that he and Vince would become close and share their love of hunting.  What I didn't know was how deeply he would touch our boys.  His humor and love will be inside of them forever.  He taught them more than I can share, but will never forget.

I am so sad to hear the news about Mark passing. Although it's been years since I've seen Mark, he was such a good friend and a genuinely nice person. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family back in Michigan. I miss you guys. I'll raise a toast to Mark this weekend, remembering Sunday night softball at Softball City, the keg of beer and Boone's Farm Wine, partying in the front yard. You will be missed my friend. My treasured Uncle, Words cannot express how much we already miss you. You were taken from us way too soon. But I will always remember all the good times we had in the time I got to spend with you, whether it be a family parties kicking the girl's butts in flip cup, to you and my dad teaching all of us the shout dance at weddings, to just all the nights I got to spend the night over your house growing up. I will miss all the moments we had but will cherish them for the rest of my life. I will especially miss the Sunday afternoon phone calls from you during football season on days the Lions found new ways to lose a game! I have many fond memories of sharing many classes with him through Jr. High and High School years He was one of the nicest guys that I ever had the pleasure of knowing. Abby and Bryan are lucky to have such a wonderful father and husband. I have enjoyed knowing him and won't be forgotten.

Our family has been blessed to be counted as friends to the VanGheluwe family for so many years. About 40 years ago the neighborhood boys(including Mark) needed an adult to manage their ragtag team. Dominic was proud to do it. Mark left us way to early, but he sure did pack a lifetime of love into his 53 years. We will always miss but still cherish his dry wit, and the devilish twinkle in his eye when he was up to something. If love could have saved Mark, if friendship could have cured Mark, he wouldn't be gone.
