

Mary Madeline LaBudie(nee Gielarzyn), S.+P., 91, passed away at her son's home in Charlotte on February 27, 2012, surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis. She is survived by her loving and devoted children; Kathleen (Victor) Szakall, Louis (Letha), and Richard (Kathy). Mary will be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Timothy Johns, Daniel King, Louis "Butch" (Heather) LaBudie, Richard (Velvet) LaBudie, and Jennifer LaBudie, step-grandchildren; Eva and James Szakall, her 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also, by her loving sister, Irene Gielarzyn. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bernice Gielarzyn, Edward J. Gielarzyn and Lillian Solnik. Mary was born on February 23, 1921 in Hamtramck to Boleslaw Gielarzyn and Anna (nee Szukala). Louis and Mary were married June 22, 1946 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Roman Catholic Church. Mary has lived in Harper Woods for 62 years and was a charter member of St. Peter the Apostle Church. Mary was employed by the Edrick Owen Construction Company where she was office manager and bookkeeper. She was a member of the Detroit area Women in Construction. Mary was a go-getter and a very active volunteer for her church. She was an area President and Past-President of the Council of Catholic Women, Archdiocese of Detroit serving on numerous committees and a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Mary served in many capacities in The Ladies Guild of St. Peter the Apostle Church. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross for many years. She was an avid reader and a member of the Friends of the Library for Harper Woods and Grosse Pointe Woods. Mary was elected Queen of Harper Woods as well. She has had a positive impact on those she has met. Her life was her family and serving her church. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit.
