We were truly blessed to be raised by our brilliant and loving Mother and Grandmother Mary Louise Orrico. Able to read at the age of 3, Mary Lou had a lifelong love for educational pursuits. She attended Annunciation High School and received a scholarship to Marygrove College where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1954. She started her teaching career and then married Robert Orrico in 1955. After lovingly raising a family of four to school age, Mary Louise started a new career with the Federal Government Census Bureau and the IRS in 1970. In her 40s, Mary Louise was selected for a computer programmer training course and became a Programmer Analyst for the IRS Detroit Data Center. After 20 years as an accomplished federal employee recognized for her technical achievements and her key role in the IRS Y2K preparation program, Mary Louise retired in 1997.
She was a lifelong Michigander and Detroit “Eastsider”, who also loved to travel and extended this gift to her children and grandchildren. Trips included a month-long pilgrimage across Europe in the Holy Year of 1950, Mexico, London, Hawaii, California, Colorado, Virginia, and periodic work travel to Washington DC and Salt Lake City. Mary Louise had a great imagination and loved science fiction, reading, good restaurants, and spending time with her three beautiful granddaughters.
She was a loving, devoted, dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, mother, den mother and grandmother who was strong in her Catholic faith.
