Mary Ann Walters

Mary Ann Walters passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on February 22, after a courageous 3 month battle with cancer, at the age of 80. She was born on November 17, 1933 in Naperville, Illinois; daughter of William and Margaret (nee Sakalowsky) Dragonas. Mary Ann was a great wife, mother and homemaker. Her home was decorated tastefully with various crafts that she created, wreaths, and knick knack obtained from garage sales. She was a wonderful cook who would always make sure her family was fed. She was very out going with an extroverted personality even though she would say that she was shy. She lived with her beloved cat "Cloudy" that was very fat because Mary Ann would feed her tuna and blueberry waffles. They would lay on the couch together and watch the old movie channels. Mary Ann was very knowledgeable when it came classic movies, with "Singing in the Rain" being one of her favorites. She loved driving her red camaro with the T Tops off. She loved animals and would feed the birds and squirrels with the "Dollar Store" peanuts. Mary Ann had a love for robins and geraniums. She enjoyed "Buddy's" pizza and the Olive Garden restaurant. She adored her grandchildren and giving gum to her great-grandson Jack. Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, David Walters, in 2008. She is survived by her loving daughter Kyra Anderson (Paul). She was proud of her grandson Jesse Anderson, and granddaughter Ashley Johnson. She adored her great-grandson Jack. She leaves behind her siblings Kathy Green (Herb), Sherry Penick (Rick), Diana Dee Dragonas-Parillo, and Kenneth Buckner (Deb). She was predeceased by her parents, and brothers Rolland Buckner and Jack Buckner. A memorial visitation will be held for Mrs. Walters on Friday, February 28th, from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Reverend Dr. Larry Austin officiating.
