Matthew “Matt” Seward was received into heaven on Monday Sept 7th 2026. He died on Labor Day which is fitting because his labor here on earth is finished. He went quietly and at peace with his devoted wife Suzie at his side. Matt and Suzie had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was one filled with love and commitment, laughter and joy and served as example to their family on what it means to life in a godly Christian committed relationship.
Matt was born on June 5, 1935 to Allen and Helen Seward in the city of Detroit, the city he loved. He served in the US Army before attending Central Michigan University where he met Suzie while walking back from the sheep sheds as Suzie recalls. They were married while attending Central Michigan. Matt went on to law school at Wayne State University.
Matt had an exemplary career at the law firm of Garan, Lucow, Miller in downtown Detroit.
What his family will remember most, more than his distinguished career and all his accomplishments in the legal field will be the love he had for his family. Our gatherings always included some good food prepared by Suzie, and there was hardly a gathering that didn’t include Matt’s guitar and lots of singing and laughter. Matt was loved by all who were fortunate to know him – he was kind, thoughtful, quick to help, quick to forgive, loving and generous to all. He walked the Christian life and taught by example.
Matt is survived by his wife Suzie, daughter Tracy Wood (Tim), daughter Betsy Karle (Chris), son Mike Seward (Kara) seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Allen and Helen and his dear sister Sue.
A private ceremony will be held at Historic Trinity Lutheran church.
