

Nadia Ann Stratelak passed away on May 22, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born on December 17, 1934 in Detroit; daughter of Ivan and Anna (nee Sable) Diachun. She was the beloved wife of the late Ernest Arthur. Dear mother of Taras, Gerard (Pat), and Derek (Eileen). She was proud of her grandchildren Jaclyn, Nicole, Marisa, Jennifer, and Mitchell. She was predeceased by her brother Ivan (Marilyn). Nadia started playing piano at the age of 5; playing in her mothers recitals. She continued to play in many of the Ukrainian Affairs as she was growing up. She attended Detroit Central High School and earned her Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan. She was fortunate to have married the love of her life, a prince of a man, and the best thing that ever happened to her. She was blessed with smart and challenging sons, great daughters-in-law, and precious grandchildren. She taught vocal music in the Detroit System and went on to substitute teach in the Detroit System and Grosse Pointe System. She earned a Masters of Library Science Degree from Wayne State University. She worked at the Arthur Neef Law Library, Wayne State University for a number of years. She retired as Manager of the Music Index, from Harmony Park Press in Warren. She took an early retirement so she could pursue a painting degree at Wayne States Fine and Performing Arts program. She won the top prize at the 2002 Michigan State Fair in the painting division and was excited to be in the 2007 Scarab Clubs Ukrainian Symbolism and Motifs Exhibit. She was active with the Ukrainian Graduates as historian, the information desk at the DIA, and a long time member of choir at St. Paul on the Lake. She was a member of the Detroit Concert Choir and Christ Church Episcopal Church choir of Grosse Pointe, singing in many of the great cathedrals of Europe with her husband. She established a WSU Scholarship program that the one enrolling in the Library and Information Sciences, be the one that wins the scholarship. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 10:00 am at St. Paul on the Lake Church, 157 Lakeshore Drive, Grosse Point Farms. Her family will receive guests at 9:30 am. Her cremated remains will be inurned next to her beloved husband Ernest at the Columbarium at St. Paul. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to UNICEF or the Michigan Humane Society.
