Cornelia “Nellie” Catherine Schrode passed away peacefully at the age of 101. She and her late husband, Daniel, were devoted to each other for 53 years. Together they lovingly raised four children, Donna Marie (the late George) Matyanowski, Robert (Marianne), Dennis (Denise), and Daniel (Catherine Serra). Nellie adored her eight grandchildren and felt blessed to have 11 great grandchildren.
Nellie’s family and friends were central to her life. All were welcome to her warm and comfortable home. Nellie made all family gatherings special, but Christmas Eve was the most memorable. Nellie took pride in her cooking and was resourceful in creating delicious, hearty meals. Nellie loved crafting and delighted in gifting the results of her many artistic talents. Nellie enjoyed spending time in her garden tending to her roses and colorful perennials. She also loved hosting Pinochle Card Club for her lady friends.
As founding members of St. Germaine Catholic Church, Nellie and Daniel were active in the church community for several decades. Daniel was a member of the Ushers’ Club. Nellie served on the Altar Sodality that promoted spiritual growth and fellowship. For over 25 years, Nellie was a Eucharistic Minister and delivered Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.
Nellie’s kindness and gentleness touched everyone who knew her. We celebrate a beautiful life, filled with cherished moments that will remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org) in memory of Nellie.
Instate will be held at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 28301 Little Mack Ave, St Clair Shores, MI 48081, on April 15, 2026, from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM
