Onofrio LaBara

Onofrio LaBara AKA: “Joe”, age 86, of Harper Woods, died on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Rivers in Grosse Pointe Woods. He was born on February 26, 1936 in Detroit to the late Paola and Josephine (nee: Coppola) LaBara.

Joe started the LaBara Barber Shop in 1965 located at 20207 Mack Ave (located at what is now the Bow Wow baketique). Due to his high quality work and larger than life personality, Joe would soon grow into acquiring local commercial and residential property to become a well-respected property owner and successful investor.

Joe’s one passion was golfing. He was a very active member of the Gowanie and Boulder Lakes Golf Clubs, where other golfers around the community very well knew him.

His wife, Janice LaBara; two sons, Timothy LaBara and Joseph LaBara (Vanessa); his one daughter, Josephine LaBara (Brent Kinney); and grandson, Jay LaBara, survive him.

Aside from his parents, his son, Paul LaBara, preceded Joe in death.

Memorial Mass will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church (15020 Hampton Street, Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230), with an instate starting after 11:30 a.m.
