Oscar Anthony Andary

Born on June 6, 1948, Oscar was raised on Detroit's east side, where he attended St. Rose School and developed many lifelong friendships that remained important to him throughout his life. In 1969, he proudly joined the City of Detroit Police Department, dedicating himself to a career of public service. Through his commitment, integrity, and leadership, he rose to the rank of Sergeant before retiring after a distinguished career.

Oscar's greatest blessing was meeting and marrying the love of his life, Carnation. Together they shared a wonderful marriage and a passion for travel, exploring destinations around the world and creating countless cherished memories. In retirement, they made their home in Las Vegas, where they embraced every opportunity to enjoy life together. Friends eagerly looked forward to visiting them, enjoying the casinos, reminiscing, and sharing countless laughs. Carnation loved to cook and was always experimenting with new recipes, while Oscar happily served as her willing taste tester. He would jokingly complain about the extra pounds he gained because everything she prepared was simply too good to resist.

Their annual road trips back to Michigan to visit family and lifelong friends became legendary. Along the way, Oscar and Carnation delighted everyone by chronicling their adventures—sharing stories of the small towns they discovered, the casinos they visited, the memorable diners they found, and the colorful characters they met along the way. Their travel updates became something family and friends eagerly anticipated, reflecting the joy, humor, and sense of adventure they shared throughout their lives together.

Following Carnation's untimely passing, Oscar carried her memory with him always, cherishing the wonderful life, laughter, and adventures they had shared. In his later years, he was grateful for the companionship of his dear friend, Maureen, who shared his love of travel and provided friendship, comfort, and support during his brief illness.

Oscar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carnation; his parents, Oscar and Mauna Andary; and his sister, RoseAnn. He is survived by his loving brothers, George, Sam, and Pete, along with his nephews and extended family members, lifelong friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Oscar will be remembered for his dedicated service to the City of Detroit, his unwavering love for Carnation, his adventurous spirit, and the kindness and joy he brought to everyone he met. His smile, laughter, and generous heart will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched. Funeral services have already been held in Michigan.

Visitation will be held at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236, on July 22, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with the Trisagion at 6:00 pm, and again on July 23, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  

Instate will take place at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Rd, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48080, US, on July 24, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am, followed by the Funeral at 10:00 am.
