

Paul Edward Rempala of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away on January 12, 2022 at the age of 75. He was born May 31, 1946 to the late Stanley and Loretta Rempala. He was the oldest of 4 children and was raised in Allen Park. A Catholic upbringing was important to his parents, so he attended elementary and middle school at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School in Melvindale. After graduating from Melvindale High School, he went on to Michigan State University, where he graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning. In 1969, he married his college sweetheart, Diane, whom he met in a Ballroom Dancing Class at MSU.
Paul worked in the City Planning Department for the City of Detroit for his entire career. When he wasn't working, he was busy raising 4 children with his wife, Diane. Paul never knew a stranger and was involved in the community, especially with the Men's Club at St. Matthew's and the Dad's Club at Our Lady Queen of Peace and Bishop Gallagher High School. He was active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and enjoyed Boy Scout camping in the summer with the troop. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling to his property in Gladwin, which was always relaxing. He also loved bowling and was a member of several leagues throughout the years. One of his favorite past times was following the Michigan State Spartans, especially the football team, where he was a season ticket holder for many years. He was an avid reader and audiophile and particularly enjoyed listening to classical music and music from the '60s.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Diane, children Roxanne Shepard (Barry), Paul Jr (Jodi), Kimberly Hall (Frankie), Edward (Heather) and 7 grandchildren; Kennedy Hall, Rachel Rempala, Melissa Rempala, Samantha Hall, Alexander Rempala, Lincoln Rempala, Dax Rempala. He is also survived by 2 sisters Judy Fields (Lawrence) and Janice Schmidt (Paul) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Loretta Rempala and his brother John.
A Mass will be held in his honor on Monday, January 17th at 10am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, located at 22412 Overlake, St. Clair Shores. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 am in the back of the church. If you cannot attend in person, the Mass will be available on St. Joan Of Arc's Facebook Page and the livestream page of St. Joan of Arc's parish website (livestream.stjoan.church)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the American Heart Association or Hospice of Michigan.
